In the last fifteen years of his life, he brought to the forehead the sign of his profound union with the crucified Jesus. Her body is venerated in the sanctuary of Cascia, a destination for continuous pilgrimages. Beatified by Urban VIII in 1627, she was canonized on 24 May 1900 by Leo XIII. It is invoked as a saint of forgiveness and a peacemaker of Christ. The sanctuary of Santa Rita is situated in the highest part of the city of Cascia, about 200 km from Rome.

She knows just how beloved this Saint can be, and pilgrims flock in their millions..Behind the large wrought iron lattice you can see the chapel of Saint Rita, in neo-Byzantine style. The urn of 1930 containing the body of Saint Rita was placed here on 18 May 1947.
The cloistered Monastery
The cloistered Monastery is the historical place where Saint Rita lived for 40 years as an Augustinian nun and where she died in 1457, at the age of 76. Today, the Monastery is alive more than ever, where the Augustinian monastic community comprising about 40 nuns.
Here, pilgrims can always find priests to receive the Sacrament of Confession in the most common languages. Unique in its originality, the Penitentiary is indicated by theological and pastoral experts as a successful model of renewal of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
