The tour starts from the eastern part of Assisi, entering the city from the “Porta Nuova”, because you can easily reach the Church of Santa Chiara.The Church of Santa Chiara is one of the most important places of worship in Assisi, as well as a valuable historical and artistic testimony. The building dates back to the 13th century and was built in the Italian Gothic style. The Church preserves some relics and the remains of Santa Chiara, located in the crypt inside a special crystal and pink stone case. The Saint dedicated her whole life to Assisi, where she lived and collaborated with Saint Francis and founded the monastic order of the Clarisse.The tour continues through shops and restaurants typical of the streets of the center of Assisi, to arrive at the Basilica of San Francesco, divided into the lower basilica and upper basilica.

Basilica di Saint Francis, is a masterpiece of medieval art registered since 2000 on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It was built just outside the city walls starting from 17 July 1228 when the first stone was laid, 2 years after the saint’s death. The consecration took place in 1253. The Lower Basilica is in Romanesque style and contains the crypt with the remains of the saint, the Upper Basilica was built in Gothic style, dating back to the same period, but built in Romanesque-Gothic style with the function of a monastic hall dedicated to prayer and as a chapel papal.
